This is a song that my first husband and I started together and I finished.  We were going through some tough times with a drummer friend of ours and the song was inspired from that.

Drummer Man

Drummer Man tell me what’s your plan—

I know you got a lot on your mind,

These days gone past seems they just can’t last—

The sun has gone and bade it’s good-bye,

It’s been a long time

Since you made up your mind—

Now tell me why you can’t come back home,

My baby and me seems we just can’t see—

your leavin draws a shade in our lives

We need ya badly drummer man—

To play without you—

wouldn’t give it the same soul feelin,

We need you badly drummer man—

To play without you

Wouldn’t give it the same soul feelin,

Seems a short while

Since we saw your smile,

The band and me we just can not see—

The happiness you bring

Doesn’t shine any more—

And the day light has faded to night,

Well come on back

here where you belong—

My babe and me we just cannot see,

The sun has gone

And Bade it’s good-bye—

Now come on back and bring back the sun,

We need you badly drummer man—

To play without you—

Wouldn’t give it the same soul feelin,

We need ya badly drummer man—

To play without you—

wouldn’tgive it the same soul feelin.

This song stirs up a lot of those old emotions attached to the reason for the lyrics.  My first husband is gone now but I know part of his legecy can live on in the words we worked together to create within this song.  The copy I found just this week is dated 11-81 I’m not even positive if the song may have been written a little before this date.  The lyrics have been lost for quite a few years so I felt it nessicary to get them out there on the web so they are archived for the sake of posterity.

Written by: Elaine R Miller who was Elaine R Hill at the time of the song writing. I want to add my former husband’s name to the author of this song. Also written by: Mark B Hill.
